Summary

Hitch Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Chicago, Illinois, with 505 students. It is part of the Chicago Public Schools District 299, which has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Hitch Elementary consistently outperforms the district and state in English Language Arts and Mathematics proficiency. For example, in 2024-2025, 51.7% of Hitch students were proficient in ELA compared to 42.8% for the district and 53.1% for the state. Hitch also performs particularly well for certain student subgroups, such as English Language Learners and Special Education students, compared to the state average. However, the school's chronic absenteeism rate, while lower than the district average, is still higher than the state average.

Compared to nearby schools like Wildwood Elementary, Farnsworth Elementary, and Onahan Elementary, Hitch Elementary has a lower statewide ranking and test scores. However, Hitch still outperforms the Chicago Public Schools district and the state of Illinois overall. The increase in per-student spending at Hitch Elementary over the past few years may be contributing to its relatively strong academic performance.

Open Quote My daughter was bullied for 3 consecutive years. From third grade to 6th. Seems things weren’t resolved by administration or teachers. They just told her to do like a “turtle “ not sure what that meant. It changed when I told said I would call board of Ed and go to channel 5. Then the kids wouldn’t talk to her which was just as bad. She felt even worse. Close Quote
