Summary

Bloomington High School serves 1,369 students in grades 9–12 in Bloomington, Illinois. Attendance is a significant concern: in 2025–2026, 38% of students were chronically absent, compared with 24% statewide and 27% in the district. Most importantly, Bloomington scored below every nearby school with reported results in every comparable subject-and-grade test.

Results are below state levels across the tested grades and subjects, and the district’s results are identical to the school’s. Math is the clearest weakness against the state: 11th-grade ACT proficiency was 23% in math, 40% in ELA, and 41% in science, compared with 40%, 50%, and 48% statewide. Science is the strongest of the three relative to the state, with a 7-point gap, versus 17 points in math. Bloomington also trailed the lowest results among Normal Community West High School, Normal Community High School, and University High School: by 8 points or more in each 11th-grade subject. Its 2025–2026 graduation rate was 88%, below those schools’ rates of 93%, 91%, and 97%.

Graduation has improved, rising from 80% in 2021–2022 to 88% in 2025–2026, while chronic absenteeism has fallen from 50% to 38% but remains high.
