As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Eastland Middle School suffers from a lack of qualified personnal for emotionally, behaviorally, and learning disabled students. Rather than helping them, the preferred goal of the school, seems to be punishment, unusually high numbers of detentions and suspensions, finding placement outside of the district, or home schooling, even though they have some special ed teachers on staff. Repeated attempts to receive services have been rebuked, and I am now forced to leave the district or continue to be stonewalled by the school. The refusal of services is most strongly defended by the principal herself. Many kids have either left the district entirely, or have gone to private or home schooling since she became principal 4 years ago.

I wrote this review a few years ago on another site, and have noticed that Darcie Feltmeyer is STILL principal of this school. Sadly, that says a lot about the community. Here is another review from the same site that explains it better:

"Eastland is a very good school with a few duds but every school has them. It is very 'small town' in that preferencial treatment goes to those who have several generations in the graveyard. You have to live here for at least 10 years to even begin to be considered as a member of the community. Overall it is a good place to raise kids. The honor system really works for Eastland."

I think the points brought up in regards to how you are treated by the community in general if you are not "born and raised" there really speaks volumes about this community in general. The latter review even states that preferential treatment is given to those with long term ties to the community. Who would want to send their child to a school like that? As far as I know, that is illegal and this school should be brought up on charges. It is not a good place to raise kids unless you are "from" there, and if you aren't then your children will suffer horrible discrimination of all kinds. Please beware. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
