Summary:
The four schools in Meridian CUSD 223 serve prekindergarten through grade 12 and enroll 1,469 students. The most urgent concern is at Stillman Valley High School: chronic absenteeism was 24% in 2025–26, and grade 9 PreACT math proficiency was 30%, 12 percentage points below the state rate. The other schools had lower absenteeism, ranging from 11% to 14%.
Meridian Junior High School stands out in ELA: in 2025–26, proficiency exceeded the state rate in all three grades, including 74% versus 58% in grade 7, a 16-point advantage. Monroe Center Grade School stands out in math, with grade 3 proficiency at 61% versus 49% statewide, an 11-point advantage; its math results also exceeded state rates in grades 4 and 5. The high school had stronger science results in grade 10 PreACT, at 59% versus 48% statewide, but grade 9 PreACT ELA and science were also below state rates. Highland Elementary School has no supplied test scores, and tested grades do not overlap across schools, so schoolwide score rankings would be misleading.
Recent results improved in several areas, with exceptions. Monroe Center’s state-relative math advantage grew from 8 points in 2024–25 to 10 points in 2025–26, while its grade 5 science result shifted from 8 points below the state to 6 points above. Meridian Junior High’s all-grade ELA advantage narrowed from 20 points to 9, while its math advantage grew from 1 point to 3. At the high school, SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile fell from 77th in 2023–24 to 60th in 2025–26, even as ACT ELA and science results improved year over year.
