Summary:
Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Education Service District 2C has two schools serving prekindergarten through grade 8: Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Elementary School (PK–4) and Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Middle School (grades 5–8); the data include no high-school results. In 2025–26, the elementary school’s all-grades math proficiency was 61%, compared with 21% at the middle school and 40% statewide. Because the schools serve different grades, that contrast is not a like-grade comparison, but it points to the area’s clearest distinction: elementary math is a strength, while the middle school’s all-grades math result is notably low.
Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Elementary School stands out for math and fourth-grade ELA: its all-grades math result was 22 percentage points above the state, and grade 4 ELA was 69%, 13 points above the state’s 56%. Its grade 3 and 4 math results were also 16 and 17 points above their state comparisons. Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Middle School stands out in grade 5, where ELA, math, and science were 3, 6, and 14 points above state rates. Its science result was 62% in grade 5 and 56% in grade 8, both above the state. The middle school’s weaker results are in ELA grades 6–8: proficiency was 49%, 39%, and 56%, respectively, each below its grade’s state rate.
Recent results show different patterns at the two schools. From 2024–25 to 2025–26, elementary math rose from 56% to 61%, while its ELA edged down from 59% to 58%; the state’s ELA result rose, narrowing the school’s advantage. Middle ELA improved slightly, from 49% to 50%, but fell further behind the state; its math was essentially flat at about 21%. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile ranking rose for the elementary school, from 66 in 2023–24 to 75 in 2025–26, while the middle school’s fell from 53 to 34. As context, in 2024–25 the schools had student-teacher ratios of 10.9 and 12.7, and 38% and 42% of students were eligible for free/reduced-price lunch, respectively. Chronic absenteeism was lower than the state rate at both schools in 2025–26: 10% at the elementary school and 16% at the middle school, versus 24% statewide.
