Summary:
Township HSD 113 has two listed high schools, both serving grades 9–12: Highland Park High School and Deerfield High School. Across the six school-and-test comparisons for each subject in 2025–26, the schools’ average advantage over the state was strongest in math at 36 percentage points, compared with 29 in science and 27 in ELA. The clearest overall finding is that both schools beat the state in every listed test comparison, while Deerfield led Highland Park in all nine.
Deerfield High School stands out within this pair: its 2025–26 test lead over Highland Park High School ranged from 3 percentage points in 10th-grade science to 18 in 11th-grade math. Deerfield also had the higher graduation rate, 98% versus 92%, a 5-point gap. SchoolDigger gives Deerfield five stars and ranks it 14th of 620 schools; Highland Park also has five stars and ranks 38th of 620. Both schools’ rankings are high, though Deerfield leads on the reported measures.
Results rose modestly overall from 2024–25 to 2025–26: the schools’ average test change was about 1 percentage point, while the state average declined slightly, widening the schools’ average lead by 2 points. One exception is 10th-grade PreACT: the Deerfield–Highland Park gap narrowed from 12 to 4 points in ELA and from 10 to 3 in science. Highland Park improved in those tests while Deerfield’s scores fell. Deerfield also had a lower student-teacher ratio (11.6 versus 12.1). For context, free/reduced lunch eligible was 3% at Deerfield and 19% at Highland Park in 2021–22; this is an observation, not an explanation for results. These comparisons describe only the two listed schools.
