Summary:
Hamilton CCSD 328 has two schools serving 577 students from prekindergarten through grade 12: Hamilton Elementary School enrolls 384 students in PK–8, and Hamilton High School enrolls 193 in grades 9–12. The schools serve different grades and take different tests, so they cannot be fairly ranked head-to-head. Results vary substantially by grade and subject, rather than pointing to a single district-wide pattern of strong or weak performance.
Hamilton Elementary stands out in current ELA results: its all-grades proficiency was 60%, compared with 56% statewide, and grade 6 was 69% versus 59%—11 points above the state. Its grade 3 math result was also 7 points above the state, but all-grades math was 2 points below, with larger shortfalls in grade 4 (10 points) and grade 8 (9 points). At Hamilton High, grade 9 PreACT ELA and math were 5 and 2 points above state results. The clearest current shortfalls were grade 10 PreACT math, 14 points below the state, and grade 11 ACT science, 22 points below.
Recent trends differ by school. Elementary’s all-grades ELA proficiency fell 5 points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 as the state rate rose, narrowing its advantage by 8 points; its math rate fell 5 points, shifting from 4 points above the state to 2 below. High’s relative results improved across seven of eight comparable measures, averaging a 9-point improvement in its gap with the state, although grade 10 ELA was an exception and science remains a concern. SchoolDigger’s percentile ranking fell from 69 to 46 for Elementary in 2025–2026, while High rose from 29 to 42; neither returned to its 2023–2024 position. Chronic absenteeism also differs sharply: 16% at Elementary versus 35% at High, against a state rate of 24%. Student-teacher ratios were 12.0:1 and 11.1:1, respectively. In 2024–2025, 56% of Elementary students and 47% of High students were free/reduced lunch eligible; these are context figures, not explanations for results.
