Summary:
Elmwood CUSD 322 serves prekindergarten through grade 12 in three schools: Elmwood Elementary (PK–6), Elmwood Junior High (grades 7–8) and Elmwood High (grades 9–12). SchoolDigger rates the district four stars and ranks it 183rd out of 738 statewide, at the 75th percentile. The most important finding is that results differ sharply by subject and school level: elementary students perform well above state rates in both IAR subjects, while junior-high math is below the state.
Elmwood Elementary stands out for strong, broad results: its 2025–26 all-grades IAR proficiency was 72% in ELA and 64% in math, respectively 15 and 24 percentage points above state results. Elmwood Junior High has the strongest all-grades ELA result, 75%—19 points above the state—but its 37% in math is 3 points below. Elmwood High was above state results in every listed 2025–26 grade-and-test comparison; 11th-grade ACT science, for example, was 63% versus 48% statewide. Its graduation rate was 93%, compared with 90% statewide.
Recent changes reinforce the contrast: junior-high all-grades math fell 9 points, from 46% in 2024–25 to 37% in 2025–26, while ELA rose 21 points, from 55% to 75%. Elementary all-grades ELA and math also improved, by 8 and 4 points, respectively. At the high school, ACT math and science each rose about 4 points, but ACT ELA fell 10 points. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 rankings put the elementary and high schools at the 83rd percentile and the junior high at the 61st. Attendance is another difference: chronic absenteeism was 23% at the high school, close to the state’s 24%, versus 10% at the elementary and 13% at the junior high. In 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible shares ranged from 24% to 28%; student-teacher ratios ranged from 10.1 at the high school to 15.7 at the elementary school. These measures offer context, but do not form a simple pattern with test results.
