Summary:

Crete Monee CUSD 201U serves students from elementary school through high school across seven schools: five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. In 2025–2026, the five elementary schools averaged 38% proficiency in ELA and 24% in math, compared with state results of 56% and 40%; the middle and high schools were also below state results in their reported assessments. The most important takeaway is that these averages conceal meaningful differences among schools and subjects.

Among elementary schools, Crete Elementary and Monee Elementary led All Grades ELA at 46.2% and 45.8%, respectively, while Coretta Scott King Magnet School led math at 31%. Talala Elementary was lowest in both subjects, at 25% ELA and 16% math—a 21-point ELA range and 15-point math range between the highest and lowest schools. Grade-level strengths differ: Coretta Scott King led fifth-grade ELA and science, with 57% and 51%, both above state results; Monee led fifth-grade math at 32%. At the middle school, math was particularly far below the state: 16% versus 40%, a 24-point gap. At the high school, ACT grade 11 results ranged from 23% in math to 34% in ELA.

Recent progress is uneven: the elementary math average rose 3 points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while ELA rose just 1 point; Monee moved against that trend, falling 9 points in ELA and 5 in math. SchoolDigger’s 2025–2026 percentile rankings were 30 for Monee, 29 for Coretta Scott King, 22 for Crete, 7 for Balmoral Elementary and 4 for Talala; these rankings are a separate measure from proficiency scores. For context, the elementary schools’ free/reduced lunch eligible shares in 2024–2025 ranged from 53% at Coretta Scott King to 85% at Talala, while student-teacher ratios ranged from 13.3 to 15.8. These figures describe different school contexts, not causes of test results.
