Elementary Schools in Belvidere CUSD 100

Elementary schools in Belvidere CUSD 100 include six schools serving kindergarten or prekindergarten through grade 5. In 2025–26, their average all-grades results were 40% in English language arts (ELA) and 35% in math, compared with state averages of 56% and 40%. The biggest area-wide finding is that only Seth Whitman Elementary School and Caledonia Elementary School scored above the state in either subject; the other four schools were below the state in both.

Seth Whitman is the broadest academic standout, leading all six schools in all-grades ELA at 57% and math at 48%. It was 17 percentage points ahead of the next school in ELA and 7 points ahead in math. Caledonia ranked second in both subjects, with 51% in ELA and 41% in math, and led fifth-grade science at 51%. At the other end, Perry Elementary School had the lowest all-grades ELA and math results, at 30% and 29%; its math result was just under 1 point below the next-lowest school. Meehan Elementary School was lowest in fifth-grade science at 32%.

Results generally rose from 2024–25 to 2025–26: the six-school averages increased by 4 points in ELA, 1 point in math and 7 points in fifth-grade science. The average ELA gap from the state narrowed by about 1 point, while the math and science gaps were essentially unchanged. There are exceptions: Caledonia’s math result fell by 4 points, while Washington Academy’s science result rose by 16 points. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 statewide rankings put Seth at the 50th percentile and Caledonia at the 42nd; the other four schools ranked at the 20th percentile or below. Context measures show differences, not explanations: in 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible students made up 42% at Seth and 71% at Washington, while student-teacher ratios ranged from 12.2 at Washington to 19.2 at Perry.
