Summary:
Gallatin CUSD 7 has three schools serving PK through grade 12: Gallatin Elementary School (PK–4, 314 students), Gallatin Junior High School (grades 5–8, 186 students), and Gallatin High School (grades 9–12, 203 students). The schools serve different grade spans and report different assessments, so comparisons across them are not fully like-for-like. The clearest concern is Junior High math: its all-grades proficiency was 17%, 22 points below the state’s 40%, even as its ELA result was 61%, 5 points above the state’s 56%.
Elementary stands out in all-grades IAR math, with 45% proficiency—6 points above the state—and fourth-grade ELA, 2 points above the state. Junior High has the strongest all-grades IAR ELA result at 61%, 5 points above the state, but also the lowest all-grades math result. Its ELA varies by grade: fifth grade was 10 points above the state, while sixth grade was 9 points below. At High School, 11th-grade ACT ELA was 4 points above the state, and science was 1 point above; ninth- and tenth-grade ELA and science results were below their state benchmarks.
Recent changes are mixed: Elementary math improved 7 points from the prior year, while its ELA fell 2. High School 11th-grade ACT ELA and science rose 16 and 27 points, respectively, while ninth- and tenth-grade PreACT ELA declined. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile position rose 8 points for High over three years, but fell 25 for Elementary and 15 for Junior High. For context, 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 57% at Elementary, 60% at Junior High, and 53% at High; student-teacher ratios ranged from 11.4 to 13.2. Junior High also had the highest chronic absenteeism in 2025–2026, at 25%, compared with the state’s 24%.
