Summary:
Waverly, Illinois, has two schools serving 329 students: Waverly Elementary School (prekindergarten through grade 6) and Waverly Junior/Senior High School (grades 7–12). Their 2025–2026 results show different strengths: the high school has considerably higher all-grades English language arts (ELA) proficiency, while the schools’ mathematics results are nearly tied. The clearest distinction is a 25-point high-school advantage in ELA, compared with just a 1-point elementary advantage in mathematics.
The high school stands out for ELA and graduation, while both schools’ all-grades scores remain below state averages. In 2025–2026, high-school ELA proficiency was 48%, compared with 22% at the elementary school; the high school was 9 points below the state, while the elementary school was 34 points below. Mathematics proficiency was 19% at the elementary school and 18% at the high school, against 40% statewide, leaving both schools about 21 points behind. The high school’s graduation rate was 94%, 4 points above the state. Results vary by grade, too: 10th-grade PreACT Secure ELA was 67%, 13 points above the state, while 9th-grade results were 42%, 20 points below.
The high school’s recent improvement contrasts with a decline in elementary ELA. From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, high-school all-grades ELA rose 24 points and mathematics rose 7 points; elementary ELA fell 5 points while its mathematics rose 3. SchoolDigger’s high-school ranking improved from the 27th percentile in 2023–2024 to the 53rd in 2025–2026, while the elementary school’s most recent supplied ranking was the 17th percentile in 2024–2025, down from the 23rd percentile in 2022–2023. As context, in 2024–2025, 45% of elementary students and 51% of high-school students were free/reduced lunch eligible; student-teacher ratios were 12.1 and 17.5, respectively. Because the schools serve different grade spans and have relatively small enrollments, their all-grades results are not same-grade comparisons and individual-year results may reflect a limited number of students.
