Summary:
Sycamore, Illinois, has seven schools: five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school; South Prairie Elementary School also serves prekindergarten. In 2025–2026, the elementary schools’ unweighted average was 51% in mathematics, compared with 40% statewide, while their 54% ELA average was below the state’s 56%. Sycamore Middle School was above the state in ELA but slightly below in mathematics, and Sycamore High School was above state results in every reported ACT and PreACT subject. The clearest area-wide finding is that elementary mathematics stands out against the state, while elementary ELA is more mixed.
North Elementary School led elementary schools in both all-grades ELA, at 67%, and mathematics, at 60%; North Grove Elementary School was close behind in mathematics at 59%. At the other end, South Prairie had the lowest ELA result, 43%, while West Elementary School had the lowest mathematics result, 40%, matching the state. South Prairie’s mathematics result was 48%, above the state despite its low ELA score. At the middle school, ELA was 63%—7 points above the state—while mathematics was 38%, 1 point below. The high school’s grade 11 ACT results were above state benchmarks in ELA, mathematics and science; its grade 10 PreACT ELA result was 16 points above the state.
Elementary trends differed by school: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, North rose 13 points in ELA and 9 in mathematics, while West fell 9 and 7 points, respectively. The five-school average declined about 1 point in each subject, as state results increased, leaving the elementary mathematics advantage narrower. SchoolDigger’s three-year percentile rankings also varied: the high school rose from the 77th to the 83rd percentile, while the middle school moved from the 67th to the 54th. As context, the elementary schools’ free/reduced lunch eligible shares, reported for 2024–2025, ranged from 8% at North Grove to 60% at West; West also had a student–teacher ratio of 11.2, compared with 16.5 at South Prairie. These figures describe different school circumstances and do not explain test results.
