Alpine Academy

Alpine Academy is a small public charter middle school in Chubbuck, Idaho, serving 272 students in grades 6 through 8 and operating under the The Academy Inc. charter district, which itself ranks in the top quartile of Idaho districts. Alpine’s own performance is solid but has slipped: it currently ranks 75th out of 174 Idaho middle schools (57th percentile, 3 stars), down from 40th two years earlier. Test scores remain above state averages in math (44.6% vs. 43.1%), English language arts (57.9% vs. 54.0%), and 8th-grade science (43.2% vs. 42.9%), but the school has clearly lost momentum relative to its peers.

Alpine’s biggest strength is attendance. Alpine also runs a high student-teacher ratio of 20.5, and while it beats most rural peers like William Thomas Middle School and Snake River Junior High School, it trails Franklin Middle School by about 12 points in both math and ELA.

Science proficiency has declined steadily from 50% to 43% over three years, and Alpine’s all-grade math score is below its own district average. Still, with low absenteeism, a strong 7th-grade cohort, and consistent outperformance of most nearby schools, Alpine remains a solid choice. The main challenges are reversing the downward ranking trend, boosting 6th-grade support, and managing class sizes. If those areas improve, Alpine has a clear path back to top-quartile standing.
