Idaho Virtual Academy is a K–12 virtual school in Meridian, Idaho, serving 1,801 students and operated by the Idaho Virtual Academy Inc. district.

As a fully online school, Idaho Virtual Academy reports remarkably low chronic absenteeism — just 0.3% in 2024–2025 compared to 14.6% statewide. The student-to-teacher ratio has also climbed to 32.5, among the highest of nearby schools, which may limit the individual attention students receive.

Comparison to nearby virtual schools highlights the gap. Gem Prep: Online School, located just 0.29 miles away, posts 76.0% math proficiency — more than 50 points higher than IVA's 24.9%. Compass Public Charter School and other Gem Prep campuses nearby also perform well above state averages. IVA's graduation rate has improved to 82.5%, matching the state average, but the school remains at the lower end of the local alternative-school market. For families comparing virtual options, the key takeaway is that the virtual model itself doesn't determine success — school design and support matter enormously, and IVA's highest priority should be intervening in the middle grades, especially in math.
