Kona Pacific - PCS is a public charter school in Kealakekua on Hawaii Island, serving 177 students in grades PK–8 as part of the Hawaii Department of Education. It is one of the smaller schools in its local comparison group and one of only two nearby schools, along with Innovations - PCS, that extends past elementary grades.
For 2025–2026, the school ranks 133 of 203 Hawaii schools, placing it in the 34th percentile with 2 stars — an improvement from 2024–2025 (160 of 204, 22nd percentile, 1 star), though still below its 2021–2022 peak (55 of 193, 72nd percentile, 4 stars). Proficiency rates were 44% in English Language Arts, 29% in Mathematics, and 50% in Science. Math is the clearest weakness: 29% is the second-lowest among nearby schools, above only Kealakehe Elementary School. ELA sits below the nearby median and most local schools. Science, at 50%, is a relative bright spot, above the nearby median and higher than Kealakehe, Hookena Elementary School, Kahakai Elementary School, Honaunau Elementary School, and Konawaena Elementary School, though science scores have been volatile. Because its results span middle grades, they are not perfectly comparable to the PK–5 schools nearby.
Two structural strengths stand out. Chronic absenteeism fell from 38.5% to 26.0%, better than Kealakehe, Hookena, Kahakai, Holualoa Elementary School, and Konawaena, and close to Innovations and Honaunau. Its student-teacher ratio of 10.1 is the lowest among all compared schools, well below Innovations (17.2) and Holualoa (18.2). Per-student spending was $9,540 in 2018–2019, the second-lowest locally. Even so, Innovations - PCS, a K–8 charter with larger classes and lower reported spending, outperforms in all three subjects, suggesting class size and funding alone do not explain results. Special Education students improved to the 60th percentile in 2025–2026, while low-income students were at the 31st percentile, pointing to a need for targeted support.
