Waimalu Elementary School is a PK–6 school in Aiea, Hawaii, serving 312 students as part of the Hawaii Department of Education, and in 2025–2026 it ranked 150th of 203 Hawaii elementary schools — the 26th percentile, with a 1-star rating.

That places Waimalu Elementary School near the bottom of its local group of schools. Among 11 nearby schools, only Aiea Elementary School ranks lower, and Aiea serves a much higher-poverty population with far more chronic absenteeism. Waimalu's current test proficiency is 44% in English language arts, 41% in math, and 17% in science. Science is the standout weakness: it is tied with Aiea for the lowest science score in the area, while most nearby schools land between 45% and 76%, including Alvah A Scott Elementary School at 48% and Pearl City Highlands School at 45%. Waimalu also has small classes — a student-teacher ratio of 12.2 — and spends $18,370 per student, above the nearby average, yet results have not followed.

One genuine bright spot is attendance: chronic absenteeism fell from 23.1% in 2023–24 to 17.0% in 2024–25, now close to the local average and better than Lehua Elementary School at 24.0% and Aiea at 31.0%. However, achievement has not yet improved alongside it. Among student groups, low-income students rank in the 22nd percentile and English language learners dropped to the 17th percentile in 2025–26, after a 70th-percentile result the year before, while special education students improved to the 35th percentile but remain below average. Overall, Waimalu's statewide standing has slid from the 69th percentile in 2016–17 to the 26th percentile today, with its rating falling from 3 stars to 1 star.
