Summary

Sharon Elementary School in Loganville, GA, serves approximately 712 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Walton County School District, and has earned a solid 4-star rating for ten consecutive years.

Sharon Elementary stands out most for its exceptional 5th grade mathematics performance. In the most recent school year, 64.9% of 5th graders scored proficient in math—a full 14.9 percentage points above the district average and 20.8 points above the state. This represents a dramatic jump from the prior year (45.8%), suggesting either a particularly strong cohort or effective instructional changes. The school also shines in 5th grade science, with 57.9% proficiency, outperforming the district by 11.7 points and the state by 13.7 points. Another notable strength is the school's remarkable improvement in reducing chronic absenteeism, which has dropped from 20.0% in 2021-2022 to 12.4%—now better than both the district (17.8%) and state (17.7%) averages. The school also demonstrates strong outcomes for Hispanic students, ranking in the 84th percentile statewide for this subgroup.

However, the picture is mixed when looking at other grade levels. While 5th grade math is exceptional, 4th grade math proficiency (52.1%) actually trails the district average (57.1%), creating a 12.8-point gap between the two grade levels. This volatility reversed in the prior year, when 4th grade dramatically outperformed 5th grade, suggesting significant cohort effects. Compared to nearby schools, Sharon sits in the middle of the pack. Youth Elementary (90th percentile) and Loganville Elementary (85th percentile) both outperform Sharon, while Walnut Grove Elementary (68th percentile) and Bay Creek Elementary (42nd percentile) rank below. With 56% of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch, Sharon serves a moderate-poverty population and delivers solid, reliable results—spending $14,238 per student, which is higher than some peers but still achieves better outcomes than schools spending more, such as Rosebud Elementary ($15,743) and House Elementary ($16,932).

Open Quote 10 years ago this was the school to be at. Now it is the complete opposite. It is not the highest ranking in Walton anymore. And the schools it feeds into are disappointing too. Close Quote

Open Quote Sharon Elementary School is one incredible school. The teachers provide a caring environment while being able to differentiate to the different students' needs. The school itself does a fantastic job of recognizing and rewarding good behavior. My kids learn in a structured yet exciting manner. I wouldn't want them to be anywhere else! Close Quote
