Summary

Diamond Lakes Elementary School in Hephzibah, GA, serves approximately 579 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Richmond County School District, where 100% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

One of the most encouraging trends at Diamond Lakes is the steady decline in chronic absenteeism, which has fallen from 32.2% in 2023-2024 to 22.7% for 2025-2026—a nearly 10-point improvement that now sits below the district average of 30.3%. This is especially notable when compared to nearby schools like Meadowbrook Elementary School (35.2%) and Glenn Hills Elementary School (29.9%). In mathematics, third graders achieved 21.9% proficiency, which actually exceeds several nearby schools including Glenn Hills (18.5%), Gracewood Elementary School (19.7%), and Jamestown Elementary School (19.6%). However, fourth and fifth graders fell to 12.9% and 13.9% proficiency respectively, suggesting students struggle to maintain progress as they advance. Fifth-grade science remains a challenge at 11.1% proficiency, though it has improved from 7.2% two years ago.

The school spends $14,123 per student—less than several nearby schools that achieve similar or lower outcomes, including Glenn Hills ($16,811) and Jamestown ($16,630). A stark contrast exists with Freedom Park K-8 School, just 3.79 miles away, which ranks in the 68th percentile statewide and sees 50% of third graders proficient in math, compared to 21.9% at Diamond Lakes. However, Freedom Park serves a population where only 20.9% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch, highlighting the significant socioeconomic challenges Diamond Lakes faces. While the school's statewide ranking remains low (3rd percentile), the combination of improving attendance, relative strength in early-grade math, and efficient spending suggests a foundation for future growth—though closing the 20-30 point achievement gap with state averages will require sustained, multi-year interventions.
