Summary

Northside Elementary is a public elementary school located in Cedartown, Georgia, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 509. The school is part of the Polk County School District, which is ranked 126 out of 206 districts in Georgia and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Northside Elementary consistently underperforms compared to the Polk County and Georgia state averages on the Milestones Assessment for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the percentage of 5th-grade students proficient or better in English Language Arts was 36.3% at Northside Elementary, compared to 31.7% for Polk County and 43% for the state. The school has a low statewide ranking, consistently placing in the bottom half of Georgia elementary schools, and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. Additionally, Northside Elementary has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, reaching 87.62% in the 2023-2024 school year, significantly higher than the nearby Eastside Elementary and Westside Elementary.

Despite spending more per student ($10,095 in 2018-2019) compared to the nearby Eastside Elementary ($8,361) and Westside Elementary ($9,842), Northside Elementary's academic performance does not reflect this higher level of spending. The nearby schools, such as Youngs Grove Elementary and Westside Elementary, generally perform better than Northside Elementary on the Milestones Assessments, despite being part of the same Polk County School District. This suggests that factors beyond just district-level policies and resources may be contributing to the underperformance of Northside Elementary.

Open Quote While I think that the teachers are trying to do the best that they can at Northside, this is a terrible school. We moved in the middle of the school year and my son was in 4th grade and was constantly teased, made fun of and bullied all through his time there. I was very disappointed with the lack of communication from the teachers with the parents. If I had to do it all over again, I'd take my son somewhere else. Even homeschooling would have been better than Northside. Close Quote
