Summary

Sammy McClure Senior Middle School in Dallas, GA, serves 834 students in grades 6-8 within the Paulding County School District, and it has earned a 5-star rating while ranking 31st out of 578 middle schools statewide—a big jump from 73rd last year.

This school stands out most for its exceptional math results. An incredible 98.8% of students scored proficient or above in Algebra I, more than double the state average of 48.1%. That's not a fluke—the school has stayed between 93% and 99% for four straight years. Math proficiency is strong in every grade, too: 6th graders hit 61.3%, 7th graders 67.2%, and 8th graders 65.9%, each outpacing district and state averages by roughly 20 points. Social studies is another powerhouse, with 78.8% of 8th graders proficient, nearly double the state rate. Science has also seen a dramatic turnaround, jumping from just 19.6% proficient two years ago to 56.2% now—almost double the state average. What's especially impressive is that these results hold across all student groups, including special education students who rank in the 91st percentile statewide.

Compared to nearby schools, Sammy McClure is a clear leader. It outperforms Lena Mae Moses Middle School by 20-30 points in every subject, and it beats Red Top Middle School by 30-50 points. Even against Lost Mountain Middle School, which ranks slightly higher overall, Sammy McClure wins in science and ties in social studies—all while spending less per student ($12,864 vs. $13,726). The school also keeps chronic absenteeism at 15%, below both district and state averages. With consistent top-tier results, efficient spending, and a proven pathway for advanced math, Sammy McClure offers a comprehensive, high-quality education that any parent would be glad to find.

Open Quote I see good reviews and i see bad. I will tell you that the good reviews must be from the school. If you look at any other site you will find the same bad reviews over and over. This school does not practice what they preach when it comes to hate and bullying. I am dealing with this now and they seem to want to keep it quiet and make it out like my daughter is the issue. I am in the process of filing a report with the police not only for the concussion that my daughter suffered from this student but also the negligence that the school is showing for my daughter's safety. If this type of behavior was happening in a home, the parent would be arrested so why not the school. I depend on the school to care for my daughter and create a safe environment for her while she is in their care and they pretend it doesn't matter. Any of the teachers can respond to my review all they want but nobody at that school has been able to convince me that they are keeping my daughter safe. I will be showing the medical reports, the calls and emails from the school, and the text messages from the student to my wife. This administration at the school is a joke. Close Quote

Open Quote Bullying goes on in the classrooms. This is ignored by the teachers and school administration. The school is NOT rigorous and students are not held accountable for work completion in the allotted time. Students go through their middle school years and have NEVER even read a book on their own! Teachers lack background knowledge in their content areas. Students spend most the of their day unengaged. While the school may score better than most Paulding County schools, most of the students still score below grade level in all subjects. Close Quote

Open Quote It is a great school. We transferred mid year and they were so welcoming, kind, and helpful. This is a truly amazing school! If your looking to send your child to a great school in Paulding County or any part of Georgia, this school is the way to go! Thank you to the amazing staff for always looking for ways to engage, teach, and entertain my children! Close Quote

Open Quote As a teacher who knows about the inner workings of this school, I strongly disagree with the previous reviewer. The teachers at this school work very hard for their students and do their very best every day. It is certainly more than "just a job." If all I needed was a job, teaching would not be my chosen profession. In regards to the bullying accusation, we have procedures in place to deal with any and all bullying situations. Our administration and counselors take bullying very seriously and we care about our students.

Some other reasons our school is amazing:
Our book fairs have received national recognition each and every year, placing either 1st or 2nd in almost every Scholastic book fair contest we have entered. We've won visits from such renowned authors as Suzanne Collins, James Patterson, and Heather Brewer.
Our CRCT and 8th grade writing test scores have consistently improved every year, often placing us 1st in the county.
Our custodians do an amazing job and our school looks as good as it did our 1st year.
Our Connections department is constantly creating fun and amazing ways to foster extracurricular activity. School pride abounds at SMMS.
Our administrators are understanding and approachable, but have high standards and expectations for all.
All teachers have school websites and update them on a weekly basis, notifying parents of assignments, content, and upcoming events.

It's impossible to please everyone, but at Sammy McClure Middle School, we make a lot of parents and students very happy. Close Quote

Open Quote The lack of action to the bullying in this school is a disgrace. As well as the email we received from a teacher stating that more than 75% of his class was failing, that it was not just our child. When we brought it to the principals attention, no action was taken. My experience with this school is nothing but lack of Administration. There is absolutely no heart, seems it is simply just a job.
