Summary

Hickory Hills Elementary School is a public elementary school in Marietta City, Georgia, serving 396 students in grades PK-5. The school's academic performance has been mixed compared to the district and state averages, with some grades and subjects performing better than others. Hickory Hills has a relatively high percentage of students from low-income families, with 65% to 66% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, which is higher than nearby schools like A.L. Burruss Elementary and significantly higher than the more affluent Marietta Center for Advanced Academics.

Hickory Hills' performance on the Milestones Assessment has been inconsistent, with some grades and subject areas, such as 5th-grade English Language Arts and 4th-grade Mathematics, performing closer to or slightly above the district and state averages, while other areas, like 5th-grade Science, have consistently lagged behind. This suggests the need for the school to closely examine its curriculum, instructional practices, and targeted interventions to address the areas of underperformance.

Despite the academic challenges, Hickory Hills has seen an increase in per-student spending, from $12,713 in 2016-2017 to $15,237 in 2018-2019, and has maintained a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 9.3 to 10.6 in recent years. By learning from the successful practices of nearby high-performing schools like Marietta Center for Advanced Academics and A.L. Burruss Elementary, and addressing the socioeconomic needs of its students, Hickory Hills Elementary can work towards enhancing the educational outcomes for its community.

Open Quote I love Hickory Hills! My child is in the IEP program, and has jumped 8 levels in reading this year! She has also thrived in their arts program , especially the drama program with her award winning teacher. Also, their mentor program to help all students along.
