Summary

Warner Robins High School is a large public high school in Warner Robins, GA, serving 1,812 students in grades 9–12 within the Houston County school district, where 100% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Warner Robins High School has shown meaningful progress this year. Its state ranking improved from 335th to 295th out of 455 Georgia high schools, earning a 2-star rating. The graduation rate is a bright spot at 90.5%, exceeding the state average of 87.2%, and the dropout rate of 1.4% is well below the state average. The most striking academic success is in Biology, where 64.7% of students scored proficient—far above the state average of 47.2% and a dramatic jump from 30.3% the prior year. This suggests a targeted strength that could be replicated in other subjects. However, challenges remain. Chronic absenteeism affects 31.4% of students, nearly double the district average of 15.6%, and U.S. History proficiency sits at just 10.3% compared to the state's 38.5%. Algebra I proficiency also trails the district (35.9% vs. 54.6%).

Compared to nearby schools, Warner Robins faces a distinct set of circumstances. Veterans High School and Houston County High School, both within a few miles, rank in the top 30% of the state with 4-star ratings and have far lower poverty rates (39.6% and 42.4%) and absenteeism (10.3% and 12.7%). The closest neighbor, Northside High School, shares Warner Robins' 100% poverty rate and similarly high absenteeism (28.9%), though Warner Robins edges it out in state ranking. Spending per student ($12,013) is comparable to district peers, and the student-teacher ratio of 17.1 is slightly better than average. While the school's overall academic picture is mixed, the strong graduation rate and Biology gains suggest positive momentum worth watching.

Open Quote If it's not football, it's not important. Concern for academics is skin deep, and ONLY exists because District is breathing down the Principal's neck. Close Quote

Open Quote I have witnessed WRHS go up and down over the last few decades. Indeed the the demographics changed a lot after Veterans opened up which shifted a good bit of more affluent students away from WRHS. Nonetheless, WRHS has many very competent and passionate teacher. The past few years have been plagued by weak leadership. In April of 2016 we saw the untimely passing of their principal, but we only hope that the succeeding principal can take the strong lead WRHS deserves to usher in a new and brighter chapter.
