Summary

Ebenezer Middle School in Rincon, GA, serves about 1,039 students in grades 6-8 as part of the highly rated Effingham County district. The school has earned a 4-star rating for ten straight years and currently ranks in the 82nd percentile of Georgia middle schools, showing remarkable consistency even as its student population has shifted—about 45% of students now qualify for free or reduced lunch, up from 37% a few years ago.

The standout feature at Ebenezer is its advanced coursework. An extraordinary 97.9% of 8th graders scored proficient or better on the Algebra I End of Course assessment—far above the district's 62.5% and the state's 48.1%. This isn't a fluke; proficiency has stayed above 96% for four consecutive years. Similarly, students taking High School Physical Science achieved a 93.8% proficiency rate, nearly matching the district and far exceeding the state's 60.9%. The school also keeps chronic absenteeism low at 10.3%, down from 19.4% in 2021-2022, and its special education students rank in the 86th percentile statewide—a notable strength. While 8th grade science proficiency (41%) is the school's relative weak spot, it still beats the state average of 29.7%.

Compared to nearby schools, Ebenezer clearly outpaces West Chatham Middle School and Mercer Middle School in Savannah-Chatham, where proficiency rates often fall in the single digits to low twenties. Within its own district, it outperforms Effingham County Middle School in math by 7-10 points and has lower absenteeism. However, South Effingham Middle School leads in standard grade-level subjects like 6th grade math (66.6% vs. 53.7%). Ebenezer's edge lies in science and advanced coursework, where it nearly matches or exceeds its rival. All this is achieved while spending slightly less per student than other district middle schools, making Ebenezer a highly efficient choice for families seeking strong academics and a proven path to high school-level rigor.

Open Quote Excellent teachers who genuinely care about the kids. Administrators are fair, and there aren't a lot of discipline issues. Students are challenged and work is engaging! My daughter loves her teachers! Close Quote

Open Quote We just moved here from Orlando, Fl. After getting over the culture shock we are starting to embrace the small town. People are very friendly and are usually willing to help anyway they can. This includes the teachers at Effingham. Uniforms are a must. Kids hate it. It doesn't cut down on the clothing bill as kids still want the Aeropostle or Holister or AF to wear after school. Biggest bummer is the budget cuts that the county and state keep making. No advanced classes this year. They were cut in a budget cut! This is exactly the reason this area lost Boeing to Macon area. Low test scores speak volumes. The problem with average classes is that the teacher is teaching a curriculum that is at 80% of your childs learning capacity. Next year they will be at 100% of 80% of the knowledge that they should have and if they make anything less than a "A" say a "B" then they are at 80% of 80% of the knowledge that they should have. Hopefully 2011-2012 will be different. Close Quote
