Cartersville High School's performance has been mixed compared to nearby schools. While it maintains a relatively high four-year graduation rate, ranging from 84.4% to 92.2% over the past few years, its test scores on the Milestones Assessments are generally lower than the state and district averages, particularly in subjects like Algebra I, American Literature and Composition, and United States History. The school's statewide ranking has fluctuated significantly over the past 10 years, from a high of 89th out of 435 Georgia high schools in 2014-2015 to a low of 236th out of 410 in 2020-2021. Its current ranking for the 2024-2025 school year is 179th out of 452 Georgia high schools, with a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cartersville High School's higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 44.85% to 50.95% over the past few years, may be a contributing factor to its lower test scores. This is significantly higher than the nearby Cherokee County and Cobb County schools, which have lower free and reduced lunch rates. Additionally, Cartersville High School's lower spending per student and higher student-teacher ratio compared to the nearby schools may indicate that the school has fewer resources available to support student learning and achievement.
