Summary

D.E.L.T.A. STEAM Academy is a K-8 public school in Lithia Springs, GA, serving 391 students under the State Specialty Schools II district, with a STEAM-focused curriculum that sets it apart from nearby elementary-only schools.

This year brought significant challenges for the school. After three years of solid performance (ranking in the 53rd–56th percentile statewide), D.E.L.T.A. dropped to the 17th percentile in 2025-2026. The most striking change is in mathematics: proficiency fell across nearly every grade level, with 5th grade dropping from 38.7% to 21.8% (state average: 44.1%) and 8th grade falling to 15.8% (state average: 46.3%). Middle school scores are especially concerning—8th grade social studies proficiency is just 5.3% (state: 40.2%), and 8th grade science is 11.2% (state: 29.7%). Meanwhile, chronic absenteeism spiked from 4.1% to 29.6%—nearly double the state average of 17.7% and the highest among nearby schools like Beulah Elementary (13.3%) and Factory Shoals Elementary (25.0%). This attendance jump likely plays a role in the academic decline.

Notably, this drop appears school-specific rather than regional. Nearby Lithia Springs Elementary improved from the 31st to 50th percentile, and Annette Winn Elementary reached the 51st percentile. D.E.L.T.A. also spends a moderate $14,833 per student with a favorable 11.3 student-teacher ratio, yet outcomes lag behind schools with similar funding. The good news: the school has proven it can perform well—its previous ELA scores were among the strongest in the area, and its historical rankings show capacity for recovery. For parents, the key levers appear to be addressing attendance, focusing on middle school support, and targeting interventions for male students, who currently rank in the 9th percentile statewide. These are recent challenges, not a permanent trend, and the school's past success suggests they can be overcome.

Open Quote This is a poorly ran school with a VERY HIGH turnover rate. They have a ghetto way of dealing with certain issues and there is alot of covering for one another's mistakes in this school Close Quote

Open Quote This school is HORRIBLE!!! Don't let the outside hype fool you. The first problem is the Principal. The staff can only produce by example. The Principal doesn't have a filter for her mouth and speaks to parents inappropriately. She does not think before she opens her mouth and speaks! I had to pull my son out, because if she speaks to me that way, I don't want to know what she will say or has said to my son!
The next problem is, they don't invest or have many learning options for children with learning disabilities. So, if the child is not high achievement, then they are basically struggling or left behind. Where is the intervention?
Lastly, the Principal is not willing to negotiate with parents, it's her way or NO way. My son had several teachers this year. There is a high turnover rate. The Principal not knowing how to speak to adults, might be partially the problem for this. If she speaks to parents this way, she definitely speaks to the staff the same way!
I really thought something special was going to come from DELTA Steam Academy. I had my hopes up HIGH...very Disappointed! Without us there is NO DELTA Steam Academy! Close Quote
