Middle Schools in Walton County

Walton County is home to three middle schools—Loganville Middle School, Youth Middle School, and Carver Middle School—all serving grades 6-8 within the Walton County district, which ranks in the 80th percentile statewide with a 4-star rating.

Youth Middle School is the clear academic leader, ranking 103rd out of 578 Georgia middle schools (82nd percentile) with a 4-star rating, and it has improved steadily over three years. Its 8th-grade math proficiency of 64.1% is a standout, beating the state average by nearly 18 points. Loganville Middle School is the consistent performer, holding a 4-star rating every year and ranking 134th (77th percentile); it posts strong science scores (47.2% proficiency) and outperforms district averages in most subjects. Carver Middle School, while still trailing its peers at 220th (62nd percentile, 3 stars), has made a remarkable climb from the 45th percentile two years ago. It serves the highest percentage of economically disadvantaged students (64.7% free/reduced lunch) and has the highest chronic absenteeism rate at 28.3%, yet it also spends the most per student ($12,941) and has the lowest student-teacher ratio (15.4:1).

All three schools far exceed the state average in 8th-grade science—a district-wide strength—with proficiency rates ranging from 39.2% at Carver to 47.2% at Loganville, compared to just 29.7% statewide. Chronic absenteeism correlates with performance: Carver’s 28.3% rate is nearly 11 points above the state average, while even high-performing Youth Middle sits at 20.4%. Interestingly, higher spending and smaller class sizes at Carver have not translated into top scores, suggesting socioeconomic factors and attendance play larger roles. Across all schools, math proficiency rises from 6th to 8th grade, indicating effective instructional progression. While current ELA scores are pending release, last year’s data showed all three schools near or above state averages, with math outpacing ELA at every grade level.
