Summary:

Lincoln County is a small, rural Georgia school district serving about 1,261 students across three schools: Lincoln County Elementary School (PK-5), Lincoln County Middle School (6-8), and Lincoln County High School (9-12). The district earns a 4-star rating, ranking in the 72nd percentile statewide, though performance varies significantly between schools.

Lincoln County Middle School is the district's standout, holding a 4-star rating for three straight years and climbing to the 84th percentile in 2025-2026. Its students outperform state averages in nearly every subject, including 8th grade science (46.4% proficient vs. 29.7% statewide) and social studies (53.0% vs. 40.2%). Most remarkably, 100% of middle school students taking Algebra I scored proficient, compared to 48.1% statewide. Lincoln County Elementary School shows solid but inconsistent results, with 3rd grade math proficiency (26.7%) far below state levels, yet 4th and 5th grade math (60.0% and 56.6%) exceed state averages. Lincoln County High School is the district's concern, dropping from the 72nd to 47th percentile over two years, with Algebra I proficiency at just 24.4% versus 48.1% statewide.

A striking pattern emerges between middle and high school: despite strong middle school math performance, high school Algebra I proficiency plummets, suggesting curriculum alignment or cohort differences may be at play. The high school's graduation rate (90.3%) exceeds the state, but its chronic absenteeism rate (24.1%) is far above the district (17.2%) and state (17.7%) averages, potentially contributing to its decline. Meanwhile, the middle school's absenteeism (12.9%) is notably better than both. Despite serving a population where 79-90% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch, the middle school achieves above-state results, demonstrating that economic challenges don't preclude success. The district could benefit from sharing the middle school's effective practices, particularly in math and science, to lift performance across all schools.
