Summary:
In zip code 33021 (Hollywood, FL), there is one middle school, Championship Academy Of Distinction Middle School, a charter school within the Broward school district serving grades 6 through 8 with 242 students.
This school presents a striking paradox. It excels in advanced coursework, with 95% of students proficient in Biology 1 and 77% in Algebra 1, far exceeding district and state averages. However, it struggles significantly in standard grade-level subjects, with only 31% of 8th graders proficient in Science and 36% in Math. This "advanced vs. core" gap suggests the school effectively accelerates a select group of students while the majority in standard classes face challenges. The school also has a low economic disadvantage rate (12.81% free/reduced lunch) but a high chronic absenteeism rate (33%), an unusual combination that may point to unique engagement or health issues. Despite its strengths in advanced subjects, the school holds a low state ranking (20th-26th percentile) and a 1-star rating, largely due to poor performance on core FAST assessments.
Encouragingly, the 2025-2026 data shows significant year-over-year improvement in 8th Grade Science (from 14% to 31%) and 8th Grade Math (from 31% to 36%), indicating the school is actively addressing its weaknesses. Other improving areas include 6th and 7th Grade Math, while 6th Grade ELA and Civics saw slight declines. The school spends $10,225 per student. For parents, this school offers a unique environment where advanced learners can thrive in subjects like Biology and Algebra, but families should be aware of the core academic struggles and high absenteeism. The recent improvements in 8th grade are a positive sign, but the school's overall performance remains a work in progress.
