Summary

Tuskawilla Middle School is a public middle school located in Oviedo, Florida, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 1,078 students. The school is part of the Seminole County School District, which is ranked 9th out of 67 districts in Florida and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Tuskawilla Middle School consistently outperforms the Seminole County and Florida state averages in various standardized test scores, including End-of-Course (EOC) exams, Statewide Science assessments, and FAST (Florida Assessment of Student Thinking) for English Language Arts and Math. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, Tuskawilla Middle School had 89% proficiency in EOC Algebra 1, compared to 64% for Seminole County and 60% for Florida. Similarly, the school had 97% proficiency in EOC Geometry, significantly higher than the Seminole County (61%) and Florida (55%) averages. However, Tuskawilla Middle School has experienced higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to the state and district averages, ranging from 24.6% to 31.4% in recent years.

Tuskawilla Middle School's academic performance is generally stronger than the nearby schools in the Seminole County district, such as Chiles Middle School and Milwee Middle School, which have lower proficiency rates in various assessments. However, Tuskawilla Middle School's higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 52.23% to 55.21% in recent years, may be a contributing factor to its higher chronic absenteeism rates, as research suggests that students from lower-income families often face additional challenges that can impact school attendance.

Open Quote Administration at this school is terrible. Principal is rude and disrespectful to parents and students. Does not act in the best interest of the students. Will not even consider working with a parent on a concern. Principal passes judgement, mocks and rolls his eyes. This is not the 1960s. He should retire and let someone with a fresh attitude and skills of how to work with students today take his place. Close Quote
