McKeel Academy Central consistently ranks among the top 5% of elementary schools in Florida, with exceptional academic performance. In 2023-2024, 83% of 3rd graders were proficient in English Language Arts, compared to just 49% in the district and 55% statewide. The school's math proficiency rates are also impressive, with 85-88% of students in grades 3-6 achieving proficiency, far exceeding the district and state averages. McKeel Academy Central's diverse student population, with a higher percentage of White and Hispanic students compared to nearby schools, also sets it apart. Additionally, the school has very low chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 0.7% to 3.3% in recent years.

Compared to nearby public schools, such as Dixieland Elementary, Jesse Keen Elementary, and Philip O'Brien Elementary, McKeel Academy Central outperforms them significantly in academic metrics. The school's 3rd-grade ELA proficiency rate of 83% is nearly double the rates of these nearby public schools. While other public charter schools in the area, like Magnolia Montessori Academy and Lakeland Montessori School House, also perform well, they still lag behind McKeel Academy Central in some areas. This consistent high performance, along with the school's diverse student population and low chronic absenteeism, make McKeel Academy Central a standout choice for families in the Lakeland area.

Open Quote Excellent teachers, staff, and even bus drivers! They take such good care of my kindergartner and make sure he's always safe and cared for. They are always so hands on with his learning and constantly have something going on at the school for the kids! I never have to worry about my son and he actually enjoys going to school! Zero complaints really. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
