Summary

St. Petersburg Collegiate High School is a small, highly selective public high school in St. Petersburg, FL, serving just 260 students in grades 10 through 12 within the Pinellas district.

This school is an academic powerhouse, consistently ranking #1 out of 838 high schools in Florida. Its test scores are extraordinary: 100% proficiency in US History, 98% in English Language Arts, and 91% in Geometry—all 30-40 percentage points above the district average. The school also boasts a near-perfect 100% graduation rate and an exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of just 1.6%, compared to the district average of 30.6%. This suggests an incredibly engaged and motivated student body. Interestingly, the school achieves these results with a per-student spending of $8,851, which is lower than many nearby schools, and a high student-teacher ratio of 52:1, a structural feature of its "collegiate" model where students take many courses at a local college.

Compared to nearby schools, SPCHS operates in a completely different tier. While St. Petersburg Collegiate STEM High School is also excellent (ranked #31), it has a higher chronic absenteeism rate (13.5%) and a lower state ranking. Other nearby schools like Osceola Fundamental High (#111) and St. Petersburg High School (#201) are good but face more challenges, with chronic absenteeism rates of 19.9% and 30.6% respectively. The school's success is a testament to its focused mission and selective admissions, creating a powerful feedback loop of high expectations and exceptional outcomes.

Open Quote My daughter left Largo IB where there was significant teacher turnover and almost daily fights to attend SP Collegiate. The 10th grade teaching staff is stable and very focused on the achievement of all students since they all must pass the PERT prior to Junior year in order to continue. They have been amazing. The environment is safe without interruption of classes. My daughter was able to register for full college classes next semester and I was thrilled to see her excitement. It is an amazing opportunity to be able to graduate with both a high school diploma and an AA degree at almost the same time. It was a great choice for our family. Close Quote
