Summary

Dayspring Academy in New Port Richey, FL, is a K-12 alternative school serving 1,259 students in the Pasco County School District, and despite its "alternative" label, it functions as a high-performing, academically rigorous institution that significantly outperforms both the district and state averages across nearly every subject.

Dayspring Academy stands out for its exceptional academic proficiency, which is more akin to a top-tier college-preparatory school than a traditional alternative school. For example, in 8th Grade Math, Dayspring scores 82% proficiency, which is 23 points higher than the nearby Classical Preparatory School (59%), and in 6th Grade ELA, Dayspring (83%) outperforms Classical Prep (55%) by 28 points. The school also boasts a remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of 12.4%—less than half the district average of 29.2% and far below Pepin Academies Of Pasco County (47.9%) and Dorothy Thomas Center (70.7%). Additionally, Dayspring has maintained a perfect 100% graduation rate for four consecutive years, a record unmatched by any nearby school with comparable data.

While the school shows a consistent upward trend in English Language Arts (ELA) scores—10th Grade ELA rising from 72% to 87% over three years—there is a slight dip in early elementary math, with 3rd and 4th Grade proficiency dropping to 65% and 61% in the most recent year. Despite this, Dayspring achieves its results with moderate spending of $10,944 per student, significantly less than Pasco Virtual Instruction Program (District Provided) ($14,200) and Pepin Academies ($14,728), both of which have far lower academic outcomes. This efficiency, combined with its strong school culture and engaged student body, makes Dayspring Academy a standout choice for families seeking a rigorous academic environment in the New Port Richey area.

Open Quote We are so blessed to have this option for our two students. If it was not for Dayspring, I do not know what we would do. The school has amazing character programs, community outreach, and robust arts program. We are so lucky we applied and our lottery number came up. Close Quote

Open Quote This charter school has a lot to offer. It has a small environment, very caring teachers, a seriousness about learning and the importance of doing your best is a continuous theme. My son graduated from the middle school and left for public HS (he wanted a larger school environment than Dayspring has to offer) and his workload, which I've heard many parents say is too much at DSA, is not as heavy in the public HS even in all honors classes. The one thing Dayspring will always tell you is that by the time you graduate MS you'll be prepared for HS and it's very true. Dayspring is what you make it. My kids are both hardworkers but not terribly interested in the Arts aspect of the school which worked out fine for them. Uniforms, a longer school day, mandatory volunteer hours (which mean families are involved and care about the school which I didn't see much of at our previous public ES) and the BEST fieldtrips have really made our time at Dayspring a memorable one. Open Quote This school is ridiculous!!!! I sent my son here for two months and he was bullied and ad fun of for the way he looked. All the teachers had favorites and they were the art students that were in dance or musical theater or the ones that were at the school for a long time. I was very mad and took my son out the day he told me. I now send him to River Ridge which has no bullying, favorites, or snobby kids. Dayspring thinks they are the best but discriminate and depress students too much for the school to be the best. Never send a child here. Close Quote
