Summary

Pasco Middle School in Dade City, FL, serves 819 students in grades 6-8 and is part of the Pasco district, which has a 2-star rating statewide.

Pasco Middle School faces significant challenges, including a chronic absenteeism rate of 33.2%—more than double that of nearby high-performing schools like Dr. John Long Middle School (16.0%) and Pine View Middle School (13.1%). Academic proficiency in core subjects lags behind district and state averages; for example, only 34% of 8th graders are proficient in science compared to 54% districtwide, and just 24% of 7th graders meet math standards versus 53% statewide. The school also has a high percentage of students from low-income households, though this rate has declined from 73% to 51% in recent years. Interestingly, the school spends more per student ($9,353) than the top-performing Dr. John Long Middle School ($8,038), suggesting that funding alone is not the issue.

Despite these struggles, Pasco Middle School shows a remarkable strength in advanced math courses: 78% of students passed Algebra 1 and 100% passed Geometry, well above state averages. This creates a "tale of two schools" within one building, where advanced students thrive while the general curriculum falls short. The school's state ranking has improved slightly from the 16th to the 23rd percentile, and its challenges are shared by nearby Centennial Middle School, indicating that these issues are characteristic of the Dade City area rather than unique to Pasco Middle School.

Open Quote We are pleasantly surprise with the way this school deal with education and discipline. Our daughter attends the Pasco Middle Cambridge Programme (which just open this year), and the curriculum/homework load is very challenging yet teachers are extremely knowledgeable and understanding on how to deal with gifted children! They are strict about completing assignment and behavioral code, as well as rewarding when goals are met. Excellent choice for East Pasco students! Close Quote
