Summary

Village Academy On The Art & Sara Jo Kobacker Campus in Delray Beach, FL, is a public school in the Palm Beach district serving 648 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, with over 82% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

This school presents a fascinating paradox: it achieves a remarkable 100% graduation rate for four consecutive years, far surpassing the district average of 93.5% and nearby alternative schools like Cross Creek School (62.5%) and Cypress Run Alternative Center (5.0%). However, this success in getting students to graduation does not always translate into high test scores. For example, while 78% of students were proficient in Biology 1—outperforming both the district and state—4th-grade math proficiency dropped to just 4% in the 2025-2026 school year. This extreme variability by subject and grade suggests the school excels at credit recovery and keeping students on track to graduate, but may struggle with consistent academic mastery across all areas.

Compared to other alternative schools in the region, Village Academy stands out as a relative success story. Its chronic absenteeism rate of 13.5% is significantly lower than Palm Beach School For Autism (41.1%), Royal Palm School (41.9%), and Cross Creek School (70.4%), showing the school is effective at getting students to show up. The school spends about $19,000 per student, which is higher than the state average but much less than specialized schools like Royal Palm School ($49,511). While it serves a very different population than the nearby A.D. Henderson University School & Fau High School—a selective lab school with near-100% proficiency—Village Academy demonstrates that an alternative school can successfully guide high-needs students to graduation, even if academic proficiency remains a work in progress.
