Summary

Jeaga Middle School in West Palm Beach, FL, serves 862 students in grades 6-8 and is part of the Palm Beach school district, where it has consistently ranked in the bottom 20% of Florida middle schools over the past decade. The school faces significant challenges, including a chronic absenteeism rate of 23.6% and proficiency rates in English Language Arts (43%) and Math (37%) that fall well below district averages. Despite spending $14,760 per student—higher than many nearby schools—these academic outcomes remain low, suggesting that funding alone isn't driving improvement.

Interestingly, Jeaga shows a striking contrast in its advanced math program. Students taking Algebra 1 and Geometry End-of-Course exams achieve proficiency rates of 89% and 86%, respectively, rivaling top-performing schools like Bak Middle School Of The Arts. This creates a "two schools" dynamic: one where most students struggle to meet grade-level standards, and another where a select group excels in advanced coursework. Nearby Bear Lakes Middle School, which has a similar demographic profile (64.8% free/reduced lunch vs. Jeaga's 61.7%), outperforms Jeaga in nearly every subject, indicating that school-level factors like leadership and instruction play a key role in the performance gap.

There are some positive trends: Jeaga's state ranking has improved from the 10th percentile in 2020-2021 to the 19th percentile in 2025-2026, and 8th-grade ELA proficiency has risen from 26% to 43% over the same period. However, the school still lags behind neighbors like Crestwood Community Middle (65% ELA proficiency) and Palm Springs Middle School (53% ELA proficiency). For parents, Jeaga offers a strong advanced math track but requires careful attention to whether the school can meet their child's overall academic needs, especially given the high absenteeism and persistent achievement gaps.

Open Quote I think this is the worst school in palm beach county! They actually have study hall as a REQUIRED ELECTIVE!?! Really what is that teaching our children that its okay to sit for a whole class period and gossip which leads to more fights at this disastrous school! Then phone calls from teachers about your child's behavior and they decide to complain about their job, the pay...Etc. Then to actually hear the teacher on the phone complaining about all the kids in her class at that moment and hear this teacher tell students and I QUOTE " Well that was STUPID" Wow what an example they are setting for our future generation. Sad and shameful! Needless to say my child will not be attending this school next year if it takes every resource I can dig up. Close Quote
