Summary

Royal Palm Beach High School is a large public high school in Royal Palm Beach, FL, serving 2,353 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Palm Beach district, where nearly half of students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The school has a strong graduation rate of 95.7%, exceeding both district and state averages, but its overall academic performance places it in the lower-middle tier of Florida high schools, ranking 508th out of 838 schools (39th percentile) for the 2025-2026 school year.

A standout strength is U.S. History, where 87% of students are proficient—the highest rate among nearby schools like Wellington High School and Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School. However, Algebra 1 proficiency is a major weakness at just 37%, well below the district (66%) and state (63%) averages, and the lowest among comparable comprehensive high schools in the area. Geometry proficiency (44%) is closer to average, suggesting a gap in foundational math skills. Chronic absenteeism has risen to 24.9%, the highest in five years, which may impact learning.

Compared to its closest neighbor, Palm Beach Central High School (just 4.28 miles away), Royal Palm Beach lags in nearly every academic subject and has a higher absenteeism rate (24.9% vs. 14.4%), despite similar spending per student and class sizes. This contrast highlights that factors like school culture and instructional quality may drive performance differences. While the school excels at helping students graduate, it faces challenges in ensuring grade-level mastery in core subjects like math.

Open Quote I am a former student from RPBHS; one that was well known as a "good student" and graduated at the top of my class. However senior year saw some major problems for me towards the end. When turning in textbooks at the end of each year, students are NEVER given a receipt of any sort to prove they've turned them in. When I went to "senior check out", expecting to breeze past the textbook checkpoint, I was shocked when administrator, Mrs. Amado, told me I owed $70 for a math textbook two years prior. I had never even received a notice about this book I knew I had turned in, but since it was the almighty high and powerful admin against me, I was not allowed to pick up my cap and gown I had ALREADY PAID FOR w/o handing over $70; again, with no proof I owed this fee. We were also given a dress code paper for graduation rehearsal which stated we weren't to wear beach attire. I showed up that day in close toed shoes, jeans, and a tee, and was then told I would not be admitted in, with many other students, because I wasn't in school uniform. I showed the administrator the paper, to which he responded, "I don't care." (Mr. Williams) Lack of organization and cooperation brings down everyone involved. Administrators do not tend to treat students with respect in situations such as these I've mentioned. Close Quote
