Summary

Del Prado Elementary School is a K-5 public school in Boca Raton, FL, serving 704 students within the Palm Beach School District, and it has a strong historical reputation for academic excellence, though it is currently navigating a period of transition.

Del Prado’s standout feature is its exceptional 3rd-grade performance, with 86% of students proficient in English Language Arts and 85% in Math—a massive 27-point and 18-point lead over the district average. This early foundation is a key differentiator, even when compared to nearby high-performers like Addison Mizner School (83% ELA, 88% Math) and Blue Lake Elementary (72% ELA, 85% Math). However, a notable pattern emerges in 4th-grade math, where proficiency drops significantly—21 points lower than 3rd grade in the most recent year—a trend more pronounced than at Blue Lake. On the positive side, the school excels at accelerating its highest-achieving math students, with a remarkable 100% proficiency rate in 6th-grade math for four consecutive years, likely representing a small cohort of advanced learners.

The most significant challenge facing Del Prado is rising chronic absenteeism, which has more than doubled from 7.2% pre-pandemic to 18.8% in 2023-2024. While still better than the district (23.4%) and state (31.4%) averages, it is higher than top-tier peers like Addison Mizner (12.6%) and Blue Lake (16.9%), and this trend is likely contributing to a slight decline in the school’s state ranking. Interestingly, Del Prado’s per-student spending ($14,118) is higher than these peers but lower than lower-performing nearby schools like Coral Sunset Elementary School ($18,431), suggesting efficient use of resources. The school’s closest neighbor, Olympus International Academy (0.67 miles away), is a stark contrast, ranking in the bottom 8% of Florida schools, highlighting the powerful influence of school culture and family engagement independent of location.

Open Quote This school caters to gifted students. The emphasis is on FCAT and anything that contributes to higher scores is what is emphasized.Teachers are very concerned about how their class ranks and appears, rather than individual issues with regard to the child. If your child does not fit into this "box" then the school does NOTHING for your child. Any services your child needs will be cast aside while they tell you they are doing "monitoring". This monitoring does not result in anything except your child falling further and further behind. Administration is very tuned into "high status" parents and what you do for your livelihood. Wolves in sheep clothing is a term that applies to the admin staff at this school. Do not place your child here if not gifted. Close Quote
