Summary

Indiantown Middle School is a public school in Indiantown, FL, serving 446 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Martin County School District, where 66% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

This school presents a fascinating mix of strengths and challenges. On one hand, it achieves exceptional results in advanced coursework: 96% of students scored proficient in Algebra 1 and 95% in Biology 1 End-of-Course exams, dramatically outperforming the district and state averages. These scores even surpass those at nearby Hidden Oaks Middle School (85% in Algebra 1) and Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School (96% in Biology 1). However, the school struggles significantly in other areas. English Language Arts proficiency lags behind, with only 42% of 6th graders meeting standards compared to the district's 60%. The most pressing concern is chronic absenteeism, which affects 31.7% of students—nearly double the rate at Hidden Oaks (18.8%) and far higher than Stuart Middle School (24.8%).

Despite spending more per student ($16,286) than any nearby school—including Murray Middle School ($14,817) and Stuart Middle ($11,434)—Indiantown has received a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for eight consecutive years. This suggests that financial resources alone aren't the solution. The school's math department shows promise, with 6th and 7th grade math scores exceeding state averages, offering a potential model for improvement. The key takeaway for parents is that Indiantown Middle School has pockets of excellence, particularly in advanced science and math, but must address its attendance crisis to help all students succeed.

Open Quote I am a student in the 8th grade and I think Indiantown Middle is a fair school. It is a building that is about 10 years old but they are making a whole new and improved building for the school around the year 2010. The faculty is great and well i think it is a great school full of lots of different ethnicities. Sometimes I think I am lucky to be in that school cause of my wonderful surroundings./ Close Quote
