Open Quote Collins used to be a good school. Now there are teachers who dont know how to teach and if you ask them anything regarding your childs work, they wont like it.The principal is very ill-mannered.if u call him with any regards,he's not there and won't even return your call. All he cares about is FCAT. Open Quote Collins Elementary School is seriously lacking in staff academic preparedness. The kindergarten staff, as supported by the principal, is taking an entire nine weeks to assess the students. In the meantime, they cut, color and paste as a whole group. Very little attention is given to differentiating the education of students. There is no evidence of ability grouping, no brain-based learning, and little classroom management in place. If you are prepared to let your kindergarten student color, cut and paste for an entire nine weeks while your student loses his or her enthusiasm for learning then this school will meet your expectations. Our family was so disappointed that our kindergarten student was transferred to a private school. No public school experience should be so ineffective. Perhaps Rick Scott needs to stop cutting education funding and require all classroom teachers to aquire a masters degree, giving the teachers the support and resources they need to be effective. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
