Summary

Tampa Palms Elementary School is a public school in Tampa, FL, serving 682 students in grades PK-5 and is part of the Hillsborough district, offering a solid academic option in a diverse neighborhood where 38% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school consistently outperforms district averages in math, ELA, and science, with recent proficiency rates like 75% in 3rd-grade math compared to the district's 60%. It sits in a "middle ground" among nearby schools, ranking in the 70th percentile—stronger than struggling neighbors like Lewis Elementary (4th percentile) and Woodmont Charter (2nd percentile), but not as top-tier as Dr. Kiran C. Patel Elementary (95th percentile) or Chiles Elementary (89th percentile), which is just 1.15 miles away on the same street. A key advantage is its favorable student-teacher ratio of 13.9:1, offering smaller class sizes than many high-performing peers like Chiles (16.1:1) or Patel (22.1:1). Math is a clear strength, while 5th-grade science scores (62%) lag behind top neighbors like Chiles (79%).

However, there are notable concerns. The school's state ranking has steadily declined from the 87th percentile in 2015-2016 to the 70th percentile in 2025-2026, a 17-point drop. Chronic absenteeism has more than tripled from 8.7% in 2019-2020 to 30.4% in 2023-2024, though it remains slightly better than district and state averages. Additionally, Tampa Palms spends $13,662 per student—the highest among nearby schools—yet doesn't achieve the top-tier results of more efficient spenders like Patel ($8,971 per student) or Chiles ($10,550 per student), suggesting room for financial review.

Open Quote It's a great school. But I would like if they are more involved in arts and extra curricular activities. Also my daughter classroom is too big, almost 30 students. But very happy with her academics and the security of the school is impeccable. Close Quote

Open Quote Is amazed at how the office staff, teachers, even the Principal remembers my kids name & says good morning to him everday & its not because he's usually in trouble or an above average student, but just because he's there everyday & they really seem to care & want to get to know each & every kid. I up-rooted my entire family from 3hrs away just so my son could go to this school, with very high expectations entering they have exceeded my expectations. However, being a very young single mom in this very high-class neighborhood definitely has me standing out & easily, instantly judged. The after school YMCA program is outstanding & couldn't ask for a better director, Ms. Doris, love her! My son loves going to school everyday & although he is considered "average," everday his teacher works with him to help encourage him & give him the drive to become "above average" in his reading, writing, and other areas of learning in the most creative ways. BUt most importantly he is safe, they completely lock all doors & exterior openings so that no one is allowed in or out without them knowing about it, which is extremely important to me.
