Summary

Trenton Elementary School in Trenton, FL, serves 779 students from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade and is part of the highly-rated Gilchrist School District, which ranks in the 91st percentile in Florida. This school stands out for its strong academic performance, consistently outperforming most nearby schools in math, English language arts, and science. For example, in the most recent testing year, Trenton’s 5th-grade math proficiency rate of 65% was significantly higher than Chiefland Elementary School (39%) and Bronson Elementary School (45%), while its 5th-grade science proficiency of 59% tied for the highest among nearby schools. Additionally, Trenton invests more per student ($12,761) than any other school in the area, which helps support smaller class sizes and more resources.

One of the most notable advantages of Trenton Elementary is its lower chronic absenteeism rate of 23.1%, which is dramatically better than many neighboring schools like Chiefland Elementary (41.7%) and James M. Anderson Elementary School (38.1%). This suggests a more engaged student body and a school culture that prioritizes daily attendance. The school’s performance is also a reflection of the strong Gilchrist district, which consistently outperforms the neighboring Levy and Dixie districts. However, Old Town Elementary School in the Dixie district is a notable exception, posting competitive scores that challenge Trenton’s academic dominance.

While Trenton Elementary is a solid school, its state ranking has gradually declined from the 85th percentile in 2018-2019 to the 68th percentile currently, which is a trend worth monitoring. Despite its high per-student spending, the school has not yet achieved a top-tier state ranking, suggesting there may be opportunities to optimize resources for even greater academic gains. Overall, Trenton Elementary offers a strong educational foundation with consistent academic performance, lower absenteeism, and significant investment in students, making it a compelling choice for families in the area.

Open Quote This school is the worst of the worst for kids and parents. They are extremely 2 faced. My autistic child's kindergarten teacher bullied and made fun of him in front of everyone. So much so that my employee I hired 2yrs later heard about it.
Then when my youngest was 5yrs old he went out to do cheerleading. At the time , the coach was my oldest child's 2nd grade teacher. She rolled her eyes and walked away, loudly saying she wouldn't coach him because he is a boy. She made him feel like he was 2 inches tall and cry his eyes out. They have time after time solely cared about their reputation over my child's well-being.

When my oldest was in Kindergarten, we tried to get him into the 504 plan. They kept belittling me and kept saying they needed a written diagnosis of autism. 3x I went to the specialist (not easy to get an appointment). On the last visit the doctor showed me the written diagnosis that they had all along. The next day I went into the office and demanded to see his files. Sure enough they had it all along and cost my son the help he should've had all year long. When I went in and blew up, they said ,"there is nothing we can do now so let's move on". They could care less they screwed up and treated me as a horrible parent. My son deserved all the help he should've gotten.

My autistic son has been a challenge and we have been very candid about our struggles with the school, looking for help. 3x they have called DCF on us instead of trying to help. They would act very concerned and that night DCF has showed up at our door. Everytime it was with no findings. We do not abuse our children. We adopted my oldest at 10 months from a horrible situation. He has every doctor and therapist imaginable.

They have done NOTHING to help but they sure will smile when you go in. All the while, they call DCF. Who else can we turn to for help than people that should care about the child? Never in my life would I imagine such fakeness. I have testimonials from other parents with similar situations. I am going to go to the school board AGAIN. If you can help it, go to another school. Any school has to be better. I know I will be be looking for next year. Close Quote
