Ferry Pass Middle School

Summary:

Ferry Pass Middle School is a public middle school in Pensacola, Florida, serving 1,014 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Escambia District, which is ranked 51 out of 68 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Over the past several years, Ferry Pass Middle School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Florida middle schools, with a 2-star rating.

Compared to nearby schools like Gulf Breeze Middle School and Beulah Academy Of Science, Ferry Pass Middle School struggles with lower test scores and higher chronic absenteeism. The school has a more diverse student population, with a higher percentage of African American (40.14%) and Hispanic (11.74%) students. Additionally, Ferry Pass Middle School has a high percentage of students (63.61%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, significantly higher than the nearby schools.

Despite these challenges, Ferry Pass Middle School stands out for its relatively strong performance in Algebra 1 and Civics end-of-course exams, with proficiency rates exceeding the Escambia District and state averages. However, the school's overall academic performance, as measured by test scores and chronic absenteeism, remains a concern, and addressing the underlying issues of economic disadvantage and attendance could be crucial in improving student outcomes.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
