Summary

Beauclerc Elementary School is a public school in Jacksonville, FL, serving 694 students in grades PK-5 within the Duval County School District, and it is currently facing significant challenges with academic performance and student attendance.

Beauclerc Elementary has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger, placing it in the 7th percentile statewide, a sharp decline from its historical 2-star ratings. The school's most pressing issue is a chronic absenteeism crisis: during the 2023-2024 school year, 53.8% of students were chronically absent, nearly double the state average of 31.4% and far higher than nearby high-performing schools like River City Science Academy At Mandarin (22.3%) and Mandarin Oaks Elementary (33.2%). This absenteeism rate is comparable only to the lowest-performing schools in the area, such as San Jose Primary School (65.8%). Academically, Beauclerc consistently scores below district and state averages; for example, only 30% of 3rd graders are proficient in ELA, compared to 51% district-wide and 60% statewide. The school also has a high student-teacher ratio of 21:1, the highest among its immediate peers, which can limit individualized attention.

Despite spending $10,136 per student—slightly above the district average—Beauclerc is being vastly outperformed by nearby charter schools. For instance, River City Science Academy At Mandarin (5-star, 94th percentile) achieves 82% proficiency in 3rd Grade ELA and 95% in 3rd Grade Math. There is a glimmer of hope in 3rd Grade Math, where 53% of Beauclerc students are proficient, an improvement from 41% in 2022-2023, suggesting a potential instructional strength. However, the school's overall downward trajectory—from the 43rd percentile in 2020-2021 to the 7th percentile now—highlights the urgent need to address absenteeism and class sizes to reverse the trend.

Open Quote Our family travels from the Southeast side of town to Beauclerc Elementary School because of the Dual Language Program. Our oldest child, however, attended the English Only program for this school in 5th grade. So we are familiar with both sides. On the English Only side we found our child had excellent educators, was able to transfer child's safety patrol status from previous school, and we felt comfortable with the safety and academic environment. Our family has attended four other DCPS schools and the PTA from this school is simply hands-down the best we have ever encountered. Plenty of opportunity for family environment. Our youngest is in the Dual Lanuage program and has been for three years now. We are very pleased with the child's progress and ability to function academically in both Spanish and English. We've not had a single bad teacher and feel every one from the ladies at the front office to the cafeteria manager are kind and helpful. Both children have been able to participate in the districts gifted student classes. Dr. Mangual was Vice Principal when we first came in and now is the Director for all Dual Language Schools but she was our 1st impression of the school - giving us a tour and sharing our family's passion for raising bi-literate and bilingual children. We are very pleased. Very much worth the drive across town (some days it is a 25 to 30 minute drive ... but there have been some hour hour drive days each way depending on traffic, construction on JTB, etc). Highly recommend! Close Quote
