Summary

Seabreeze Elementary School is a K-5 public school in Jacksonville Beach, FL, serving 524 students within the Duval County Public School District.

Seabreeze has historically been a strong performer, earning a 4-star rating for the past decade, but recent data shows a significant drop to a 3-star rating, with its state ranking falling from the 79th-86th percentile to the 69th percentile. This decline is notable because the school is surrounded by some of the highest-performing elementary schools in the state. For example, Jacksonville Beach Elementary School (0.93 miles away) is ranked #3 in Florida, and J. Allen Axson Elementary School is in the 98th percentile. Seabreeze now finds itself outperformed by nearby schools like San Pablo Elementary School (97th percentile), Atlantic Beach Elementary School (93rd percentile), and Neptune Beach Elementary School (85th percentile).

Despite the recent dip, Seabreeze still has clear strengths. The school excels in 4th Grade Math, with 83% of students proficient, far exceeding district and state averages. Overall, math proficiency (72%) outpaces English Language Arts (64%), though both are above district averages. However, chronic absenteeism has risen to 26.0%, which is notably higher than top-performing neighbors like Jacksonville Beach Elementary (11.0%) and Ponte Vedra Palm Valley- Rawlings Elementary School (8.7%) in the St. Johns district. With per-student spending of $9,009—lower than most nearby high-achieving schools—and a student-teacher ratio of 18.7:1, the recent performance decline may signal a need for increased investment to keep pace with its affluent, high-achieving corridor.

Open Quote Leadership is poor. Top down, school wide, overall, no one is a leader and takes responsibility for ensuring the best education practices are followed. There is zero continuity among grade levels and teachers. The principal has no clue what is happening in each classroom and does not care to find out, even if it means becoming more involved and observing daily practices. Hardly any communication flows from principal to teacher to parent weekly which leaves teachers and parents confused about what to expect and what is going on. Students do what they are told and spend most of their time bouncing around from resource to resource as funding, scheduling, and timing permits. Parents are never in the classrooms to help or volunteer because it would be too obvious how poorly operations are ran and embarrassing rather than helpful. There is no class mom, yet "snack time" is given daily for children outside of kindergarten. Holidays give the school more reasons to conduct adhoc fundraisers and hold meetings or assemblies and keep students out of the classroom, even during vital testing periods (Nov/Dec). Education is NOT a goal of the leadership. Good luck if you decide to attend. You will not have a clue about what your child is actually learning, what you need to do to support you child, or even know your child's schedule since the school hardly knows their day-to-day routines, aside from food, play and meetings. It's no surprise over half the children can't read or hold a pencil while teachers keep passing them on their two-letter spelling words for children well beyond kindergarten. They won't move on if others are behind. If you have a smart child, don't put them here. They won't cater any learning to your child and they hardly ever do centers. This school is a joke. The only ones who love it here are the ones who are happy with the bare minimum and are just as clueless about the school and curriculum as the principal and staff. The ones who can't stand it are the ones who realize that their child hasn't moved on from topics for over two months or hasn't learned more about a new topic in a few months when, according to the curriculium, they should've been progressing and testing and moving on or doing more activities. Instead, fundraisers, assemblies, a science fair with little or no information (shocker), a library they only visit once a month, maybe, and even then they sometimes don't even get to check out books because... who knows why? That's the only beautiful thing about the school is the media center. They use that for meetings, movies, and testing instead of letting the kids actually browse and enjoy the library for that one, maybe two days of the month. Shame. No consistency at all. Consistently failing their students and my children. Please, tour the school DURING school. Do an all-day tour. See how teachers and other staff are. See if you ever even see the principal. See what announcements actually go out in the afternoon. See what the school's priorities actually are. No one is actually kind or cares about the students. The school nurse is one of the meanest people of all. She accused my child of faking a cough once. How ridiculous. Music's priority is to prepare for months leading up to the December play for lower classes. Art class.. we still have no clue what anyone does in art since zero work has made it home and there is never anything to say about it. P.E. is basically like recess but with P.E. equipment available. Again, nothing learned, guided, no tasks, standards, objectives. Nada. You can only imagine what's happening in the actual classrooms. Best of luck. Sincerely, heart broken for our children. Close Quote
