Open Quote Any parent that genuinely wants their child to succeed should refrain from sending their kid/kids to this school. From the principal on down, a group of liars that will place blame on one another. They focus so much on hounding the children during FSA testing to ensure their jobs are secure versus caring about the wellbeing and mental anguish of the kids. I sent my son to this school only to have him closer to my moms job, the high school next door, not knowing I was sending my son into an environment of teachers that are there for only a paycheck and disrespectful unprofessional office staff that really should have no form of attachment to kids. The 3rd grade math teacher sends home packets of 20 plus pages for a week, in combination with a 10 page English packet from another class, and a 5 page packet from science. In addition to these packets they have fluency and spelling work. This school does not consider family time as being essential. A child must have an equal balance of school, family, and social activity to evolve into a well balanced member of society. This was indeed my biggest mistake sending my son to Sallye B Mathis. His father is active duty military therefore our transition back to Jacksonville mid school year didn't present many opportunities for choices in his schooling along with myself having a job that requires travel, therefore the convenience of having him close to my mom, cost my son exposure to an environment he has never experienced along with a lot of evening dinners of explanations that this is not normal behaviors of adults or children. THIS LESSON WAS A MAJOR WAKE UP CALL FOR ME ALSO! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
