Summary

Law Enforcement Officers Memorial High School is a small, specialized public high school in downtown Miami serving 281 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools district, where about 59% of students are economically disadvantaged.

The school's most notable strength is its exceptional graduation rate, which has consistently hovered between 97% and 100% over the last five years—reaching 98.6% in the 2024-2025 school year, well above the district average of 93.1% and state average of 92.2%. However, this success in graduating students contrasts sharply with performance on state math exams. Only 22% of students were proficient in Algebra 1 and 44% in Geometry, both significantly below district and state averages. This represents a steep decline from just a few years ago, when 75% of students were proficient in Algebra 1. On the positive side, the school excels in humanities and sciences, with 72% proficiency in 10th-grade ELA, 75% in Biology 1, and 78% in U.S. History—all outperforming district and state averages. The school also has a relatively low chronic absenteeism rate of 23.9%, much better than nearby schools like Booker T. Washington Senior High (58.3%) and Mater Lakes Collegiate Academy High School (45.6%).

This school sits in a cluster of downtown Miami high schools with vastly different profiles. Just a short distance away are top-tier magnet schools like New World School of the Arts and School for Advanced Studies-Wolfson, which serve a more selective student body and have much higher test scores. Despite spending $15,428 per student—higher than the district average and many nearby schools—the school's math proficiency has dropped dramatically, raising questions about how resources are being allocated. The near-perfect graduation rate is a tremendous achievement, but with only 22% of students proficient in Algebra 1, many graduates may need remedial math courses in college, creating a gap between high school completion and true college readiness.

Open Quote When you first apply the school seems great, but once inside not so much. Faculty is very disorganized, most teachers don't even teach you just sit there on your phone, there is barely field trips or other promised activities and the dual enrollment program is completely disorganized, they don't inform you about anything.
