Summary

Miami Children's Museum Charter School is a small, high-performing K-5 elementary school in Miami, FL, serving 314 students and consistently ranking in the top 10-15% of all elementary schools in Florida, with a current 5-star rating and a 94th percentile statewide ranking for the 2025-2026 school year.

This school stands out dramatically from its neighbors in the Miami-Dade district. For example, 94% of its 3rd graders were proficient in English Language Arts and 96% in Math, which is roughly 30-40 percentage points higher than nearby schools like Downtown Miami Charter School (59% ELA, 46% Math) and Theodore R. And Thelma A. Gibson Charter School (25% ELA, 48% Math). It even outperforms the highly-regarded Ada Merritt K-8 Center in 4th grade ELA (90% vs. 86%). The school achieves these top-tier results with a lower-than-average per-student spending of $9,026, making it a cost-effective choice compared to lower-performing nearby schools like Frederick R. Douglass Elementary ($20,085) and Paul Laurence Dunbar K-8 Center ($15,633).

While the school's academic performance is elite, there are a few areas for parents to note. Chronic absenteeism has been rising, from 13.5% in 2019-2020 to 26.6% in 2023-2024, which is a trend to watch. Additionally, 5th-grade Science scores have shown some volatility, jumping from 45% proficiency in 2022-2023 to 80% in 2024-2025, before settling at 71% in 2025-2026. Despite these concerns, the school's strong foundation in the primary grades makes it a standout option for K-5 education in the area, especially when compared to other nearby schools like Mater Academy East Charter School, Southside Preparatory Academy, Eneida M. Hartner Elementary School, Bridgeprep Academy Of Greater Miami, and Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School.

Open Quote We didn't fit in with the school culture. It could have been COVID.
We expected the Museum would be integrated into all areas of instruction. Not do much. Science was the only area that hit the mark,
Overall, it felt a bit superficial, cliquish without as much academic drive as its potential.
Didn’t really foster community with all students. PTA - Non existent except for the membership dues. Close Quote

Open Quote The teachers are caring but the administration doesn't communicate well. There is high turnover of teachers, even within a school year. Close Quote
