Summary

Ojus Elementary School is a PK-5 public school in Miami, FL, serving 835 students within the Miami-Dade County Public Schools district, where 48% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. This school stands out for its exceptional performance in Mathematics, consistently outperforming both district and state averages across all tested grade levels (3rd, 4th, and 5th) in the 2025-2026 school year, and it also shows a notable strength in 5th-grade Science, with 61% proficiency. However, English Language Arts (ELA) scores lag significantly behind district and state averages, creating a pronounced "Math vs. ELA" gap that is more evident here than at higher-performing neighbors like Aventura City Of Excellence School (92nd percentile) or Virginia A Boone-Highland Oaks School (87th percentile).

After a two-year slump, Ojus is showing a strong upward trend, with its state percentile rank jumping from 46th to 53rd and test scores improving dramatically year-over-year—for example, 5th-grade Science rose from 44% to 61% proficiency. This positive momentum sets it apart from nearby schools like Greynolds Park Elementary School or Fulford Elementary School, which are trending downward or stagnating. The school also has a moderate chronic absenteeism rate of 23.7%, better than the district average but higher than top-tier neighbors, suggesting attendance is a manageable challenge that may be holding it back from reaching a higher performance tier.

Geographically, Ojus is sandwiched between two of the state's highest-performing schools, but it serves a more economically diverse population, achieving solid results in Math despite this. Its closest neighbor, Bridgeprep Academy Of North Miami Beach (0.43 miles away), has a similar overall ranking but a vastly different educational environment, with a nearly non-existent free/reduced lunch population and a high student-teacher ratio of 82:1, compared to Ojus's traditional 17.3:1. As a PK-5 school, Ojus must compete with nearby K-8 centers like Aventura Waterways K-8 Center and Norman S. Edelcup/Sunny Isles Beach K-8, which offer a seamless education through 8th grade, making Ojus's ability to maintain enrollment and show academic improvement even more noteworthy.

Open Quote My child is attending this school and has had the worst experience of his life. Not only does he have tons of time-consuming homework, but the teachers are the opposite of motivational and says that they are not going to make it to middle school and that they are going to fail. To top; it off, the principal literally runs on reading. Why? I have no idea. But i strongly recommend your child not to go to this school unless they want their childhood as prison. Close Quote
