Summary

Peters Elementary School in Plantation, FL, is a mid-sized elementary school serving 504 students in grades PK-5 within the Broward County School District, and it has achieved a remarkable turnaround over the past five years, rising from a 1-star rating in the 25th percentile statewide to a 3-star rating in the 60th percentile for the 2025-2026 school year.

Peters Elementary stands out for its exceptional math performance, particularly in the lower grades. In the 2025-2026 school year, 85% of 3rd graders were proficient in math, which is 12 points above the district average and 19 points above the state average—the highest rate among all nearby schools. This math strength contrasts with more mixed English Language Arts (ELA) scores, where 4th and 5th graders lag behind the district average. The school's dramatic improvement is especially notable when compared to nearby schools like Renaissance Charter School at Plantation, which ranks in the 11th percentile, or Royal Palm Elementary School at the 43rd percentile. Peters also uses its resources effectively, spending $15,117 per student—more than some peers but less than Mirror Lake Elementary School ($16,870), which has lower test scores and a lower state ranking.

However, the school faces a significant challenge with chronic absenteeism, which stands at 40.0%—the highest rate among all nearby elementary schools serving grades PK-5 and well above the district average of 33.6% and the state average of 31.4%. For context, Plantation Park Elementary has a rate of only 23.0%, and Tropical Elementary School is at 26.3%. This creates an interesting paradox: Peters achieves strong academic growth despite high absenteeism, suggesting that instruction for attending students is highly effective. If the school can address its attendance issues, its overall performance could see another significant leap. Additionally, the percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch has dropped sharply from 73.52% in 2022-2023 to 53.37% in 2024-2025, a positive trend that may be contributing to improved test scores.

Open Quote This is the worst school ever! The office staff is lazy and was rude & unaware of how to handle certain situations from the first day of registration. You call and leave a message for the principal or vice principal and don't get a call back you have to call once again & hope you get them. My child had a teacher who was rude & constantly talked down to her. Reported to the school board & pulled my child out. I completely regret moving to the area. Close Quote
